At Intuit, we go broad to get narrow. Our X Team (a cross-collaboration with IDS Core and Product Development) is a narrow, lean design system machine in service to Intuit products by helping teams consider ecosystem cohesion in everything they do.
IDS Core Team
The Intuit Design System (IDS) was created to bring together foundational elements that would create beauty and familiarity between products without losing their distinct brand identity. The IDS Core team includes: Design Foundations & Components, Accessibility, Gen AI / Intuit Assist, and Design Platforms
Design Foundations & Components
Foundations
IDS Foundations encompass the styles, effects, and structures that govern how components are created within the design system through semantic design tokens. They include guiding principles for branding, accessibility, and UX best practices. These principles serve as blueprints for all components, patterns, and layouts, ensuring a cohesive customer experience across Intuit’s ecosystem.
Design Tokens
Design tokens are individual pieces of design information stored in a central location and shared across all resources. Design tokens offer automatic support for system modes without extra effort.
- Benefits of Tokens
Tokens let you to define design values (like a color value) once and reuse them many times in products. This makes it so you can change the theme, color scheme, or completely modernize your experience by changing a small set of tokens. Change the value once, and it will propagate out to all design resources and platform implementations of your product.
Components
Components in a design system are reusable building blocks that create a consistent user interface across products. These elements, such as buttons, forms, and navigation bars, are designed to be flexible and adaptable. By standardizing components, design systems streamline the design and development process, ensure a cohesive look and feel, and improve the user experience.
Accessibility
At Intuit, accessibility is at the forefront of our design philosophy, ensuring that our products are usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. We are committed to creating inclusive software solutions that empower all users, enhancing their ability to manage and grow their financial portfolios effectively.
Gen AI / Intuit Assist
GenAI enables designers and developers to create best-in-class GenAI experiences for Intuit. We provide curated, validated design solutions (at scale) that unlock innovative teams so they can work quickly and with confidence.
